2. How long will it last?
As a general rule, a teak deck will wear down between 0.5mm – 1.5mm per year when exposed to the weather & general wear that comes from washing and cleaning. The more you wash a deck, the more it wears.
3. Do you use high quality teak?
Yes. That is one of the reasons we are the first choice for some of the world's premier super yacht owners and boat builders. In fact, these days we even mill our own teak at our Auckland factory, which gives us total control over our teak selection and we can ensure all teak is properly quarter sawn.
4. Where do you get your teak from?
Teak is becoming more sought after as the world's superyacht/mega yacht population increases. We have supply arrangements in place that ensure we have a steady supply of high quality Burmese teak. However, it is important to talk to us at the earliest stages of vessel construction or refit planning so that we schedule your requirements accordingly.
5. How do I wash & maintain my teak decks?
Wash with soapy water and a soft brush, scrubbing across the grain. Teak deck cleaning products should be used exactly as per instructions, and with extreme care. Do Not Water Blast! If in any doubt, give us a call or Enquire about entering our annual maintenance programme.
6. What are the advantages of vacuuming the teak decking panels down?
Vacuum bagging means NO FASTENINGS are used, which looks great and reduces deck wear. We have been vacuuming panels down for over ten years, using polyurethane bedding compounds. This has more than proved that it is the best way to ensure there are no voids, and that the decking panels remain attached to the decking substrate with no deck penetration leaks.
7. Where can I purchase Sika products from?
From your local Sika dealer www.sika.com or we can ship you products if requested.
8. Why do you only recommend using Sika products?
We have had large success with our decking system, and it still concerns us that other systems are failing. Sika provides certified caulking products that have proven themselves time and again.
9. How long to install (With NCL)
As we pre-manufacture our decking panels at our Auckland plant, installation is relatively fast. It is not unusual for us to vacuum down up to 30 square metres a day. Detailing takes a bit longer but we can ramp up or down in order to meet our client's deadlines.
